Application
Before you apply for the summer school please read the following points carefully.
Costs:
There is no participation fee charged. Accommodation on Hiddensee island during the summer school is free of charge, including full board. All traveling costs must be paid by the participants themselves. In exceptional cases, candidates from developing countries (according to the list of DAAD) who are not able to cover their travel costs by themselves, can apply for an additional travel grand.
Accommodation:
Participants will be accommodated in bungalows with two double rooms per bungalow. Therefore two students have to share one room. Every bungalow is equipped with a bathroom.
Meals:
Cooking facilities are available in a kitchen bungalow. Lunch will be provided by the organizers of the Summer School. Breakfast and dinner have to be prepared by the student’s themselves. Food for breakfast and dinner will be provided by the organizers of the Summer School.
Infrastructure on the island:
Hiddensee is a car-free island, all transport has to be done by foot, by bike or by horse carriage. There are two small supermarkets and a bakery in Kloster, where you can buy food and drinks. There is a physician and a dentist on the island, but no pharmacy. Please be aware to bring all medication, which you maybe need regularly, with you.
Physical fitness:
The Summer School includes several excursions (hiking and cycling), sampling activities along the coast and from the research vessel Elisabeth Mann Borgese. These activities require a certain physical fitness of the participants.
